The invention relates to a drive for a heliostat with two worm mechanisms arranged one above the other with their axes offset, which are installed as a complete drive unit in the self-locking worm wheel sets having adjustable backlash. The worm shaft is axially displaceable and lockable in any position and large shaft diameters in conjunction with short mounting bases serve to increase stiffness. The invention is a further development of patent application P3027962.0 and is characterised in that the self-locking worm wheel sets (9a, b) with adjustable backlash are additionally installed as a final stage in each mechanism and the worm shaft (9a) can be displaced axially and locked relative to the worm shaft (2a) and the shaft with the worm wheel (9b) is rigidly connected to the foundation, and the mechanism (2) with the flanged-on mechanism (1) rotates about the shaft, and large shaft diameters serve to provide stiffness. The heliostat of the invention is used as a drive unit with precise backlash adjustment by simply readjusting the reversal play without disassembling the entire heliostat. Its use is made technically and economically simpler by virtue of this fact and by virtue of the fact that any driving components, such as bevel gear mechanisms, can be used for the worm wheel sets. <IMAGE>
