A device for positioning a clamping chuck for a milling machine or a lathe is indicated, in which the clamping chuck shaft, which is formed on the clamping chuck holding the workpiece or the tool, is adjustable in its angle independently in two planes arranged perpendicularly and parallel respectively in relation to the central line of the clamping chuck shaft. According to the invention, a first and a second encoder are provided, which in each case ascertain the size of the angle by which the clamping chuck shaft is displaced in relation to one of the two planes and emit corresponding digital signals, and also an operating part which calculates the size of the angular displacement according to the digital signals, and an output part is provided, which provides a digital display of the angular displacement according to the output signals of the operating part. <IMAGE>
