PURPOSE:To improve working efficiency of printing and the like and to save paper and cassettes, by performing display or control based on the signal detected by a detecting part when the width of the ink ribbon becomes smaller than a specified width. CONSTITUTION:When the ribbon 7 is damaged and bent, the light irradiated from light emitting devices 12a and 13a in the detecting part 11 is inputted into light receiving devices 12b and 13b. By the output signals from the detecting part 11, a driving circuit 17 is actuated, a lamp 16 is lit, a control part 18 is actuated, and a stop signal is outputted. Thus a printing mechanism part is stopped, an this is notifyied to the operator. In this way, the abnormal ink ribbon arranged in an ink ribbon cassette is detected. |
