A method for maintaining the freshness of green perishfoods was described. A closable container in which was enclosed a carbonaceous molecular sieve which carried bromine as had absorbed thereon and had micropores within the range of 4. to 6 Angstrom units in diameter. The container was of material whose permeability to CO2 gas at 25≦̸C was 2,000-100,000 ml/m2/24hr, and contained at least 90% C, up to 3 % O and up to 1 % H, and had surface area 400-900 m2/g, and no less than 80% of the total volume of micropore. The container was used for maintaining the freshness of green perishable products.
