A lift valve has a movable valve member (1), a stationary metallic valve seat (6), and co-acting sealing surfaces thereon defined by sealing bodies (5, 6) of malleable material, with the sealing surface on the valve member inclined with respect to the motion direction of the valve member. The sealing body (5) on the valve member, which is softer than the valve seat, has the form of a body of revolution generated from a curved line. A permanent deformation of the malleable sealing body of the valve member occurs on closure of the valve which ensures that the valve member and the valve seat preserve their general sealing form despite wear of the sealing surface of the valve member. <IMAGE> |
