The calculator (10) controls several digitally controlled machine tools (17) each with its own digital controller (16). The calculator has an external memory disc (11) on which the control programs are stored. A teleprinter (12) enables the programs to be entered into or out of the memory and interfaces (13) permit communication with the digital controllers. The digital controllers contain a data processor (20) and internal memory (22). A keyboard (21) enables data and commands to be entered into the processor and allows modifications to be made to programs read from a tape reader (TR). This is enabled by a mode selector (MS) in the unique block mode (SB). When a block is found the modifications are made in the edit mode (ED). A button (21c) allows the corrected program to be transferred to the calculator memory.
