PURPOSE:To obtain the titled device having a simplified controller for preventing irregularity of the external diameter and the wall thickness of a long body product by a method wherein a cooling part is divided by packings into a plurality of compartments and those compartments are connected with each other through connecting pipes under specific states. CONSTITUTION:The cooling part 8 is divided by packings 9 into compartments W1, W2.... The upper end of the i-th compartment W1 is connected to the lower end of the (i+1)-th compartment on the downstream side through connecting pipes 34 each of which has a regulating valve 33. By a method wherein pressure difference between the pressure P in an air chamber 23 and the atmospheric pressure Pa is shared equally in n-chambers and reduced, the pressure difference between chambers before and behind each packing 9 is equalized and clamping actions of each packing are made equal with each other.
