PURPOSE:To decrease the scattering in transmission light of infrared ray optical fiber, by smoothing a core clad boundary, through a clad crystal layer closingly coated around a core crystal with a processing at a temperature region not causing recrystallization on the way of processing. CONSTITUTION:Between thin plates 2' of an infrared ray transmission member being a clad, a core 1 made of single crystal or polycrystal is inserted, and cold rolling can be made with a caliber, roll at a temperature region not causing recrystallization on the way of processing. Then, the thin plates 2' are put closely together around the core 1 for coating and a core clad boundary can be smoothed by cutting off margins 4 produced at both sides at A-A', and B-B' lines. Thus, the scattering in transmission light in an optical fiber can be decreased and a step index type infrared ray optical fiber excellent in the transmission efficiency of infrared rays can be manufactured. |
