The disclosed invention provides apparatus for electron-beam-irradiation of surfaces for purposes of sterilization and the like. An electric-discharge repetitive pulse generator of the Marx type having a stacked array of discharge gaps is connected to a corresponding staggered co-extensive array of capacitors. Pulse generation is achieved by initially triggering other than the first discharge gap. A longitudinally extending electron gun having an electronpervious window is electrically connected to the pulse generator so that longitudinal strip-type electron beams exiting the window are drawn from the electron gun in response to generated pulses. With the apparatus of the invention voltage variations have less effect and reliability is improved.
