PURPOSE:To obtain an electrochromic display device (ECD) provided with the superior responding characteristics of a soln. sealing type ECD and the superior reliability and memory function of an all-solid type ECD by replacing the electrolytic soln. of the soln. sealing type ECD with an electrolytic soln. having a higher m.p. CONSTITUTION:In case of a soln. sealing type WO3 type ECD, the display cell is formed by oppositely arranging a front glass substrate 1 provided with an electrically conductive transparent film 3 and a display electrode 4 using a vapor-deposited WO3 film and a back glass substrate 2 provided with an opposite electrode 6 to which a voltage can be applied through a lead wire 9, and an electrolytic soln. 5 is sealed in the cell. As the soln. 5 a soln. having a m.p. above room temp. such as a soln. of ethylene carbonate or acetamide having 30-80 deg.C m.p. is used. Since the compound does not cause coloring and decoloring at all at room temp., it is dissolved by heating prior to coloring and decoloring, and a voltage is applied. Thus, uneven coloring is prevented, and since the soln. 5 is solidified when the cell stops working, a leak of the soln. and corrosion are not caused to prevent the deterioration of the cell. |
