The endless wire saw has diamond cutting bits at uniform centres, being driven by pulley wheels with specially notched rims, and being used to cut monument stone. The bits are always located by the notches and as a result, the wire remains straight and unstressed in the vicinity of the bit which remains fixed. Abrupt changes in wire curvature at notch extremities are avoided by the rim curvature between the notches. The locus for the modified curves lie at the intersection of the adjacent terminal perpendicular to the chords of adjacent notches, i.e. the curves are tangential to the notch chords.
|
