<p>An underground partition, or e.g. retaining wall, is formed by excavating a trench in a conventional manner, supporting its sides, placing reinforcing framework in the trench, tensioning the framework and then casting the concrete. The tension in the reinforcing frameworks causes the concrete to be subjected to a vertical, uniform compression over the whole thickness of the partition formed. Passive reinforcing frameworks are pref. also placed at certain points in the trench to take the compressive forces which exceed the limit that the concrete can absorb.</p> |
