<p>PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound economically in an industrial scale, by reacting butadiene with water in an aqueous sulfolane solution having a specific concentration in the presence of a Pd catalyst added with a unidentate phosphine having a specific structure, and separating the objective compound with solvent extraction. CONSTITUTION:Butadiene is made to react with water in an aqueous sulfolane solution wherein the weight ratio of water containing carbonate ions to sulfolane is 20/80-70/30, in the presence of (i) a Pd catalyst, (ii) at least 6mol of a unidentate phosphine of formulaI(R<1> is aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic hydrocarbon group; R<2> is H, CH3, NO2, etc.; n is 0 or 1; x is 0-2; y and z are 0-3; A is group of formula II, formula III, etc.; B is SO3M, COOM, etc.; M is alkali metal) per 1 g-atom of Pd, and (iii) a unidentate tert-amine having a PKa of >=7 in an amount of 1-50vol% of sulfolane. The objective compound is separated from the reaction mixture by solvent extraction. The life of catalytic activity can be maintained for a long period without lowering the rate of reaction and selectivity.</p> |
