Apparatus for positioning a radiation scanner(74) tube(75)(76) within a nuclear reactor pressure vessel in direct contact with a fuel rod end cap in a multi-rod assembly comprises a track mounted on the vessel top peripheral flange. Wheels(67)(70) on the ends of a main brace(66) move it transversely along the track (68). Wheels on a frame engage the brace for transversely positioning the frame along the brace in a direction perpendicular to the brace movement. A hydraulic cylinder on the frame carries a second brace for movement parallel to the main brace axis and a spring biases the tube from the second brace parallel to the axis.
