<p>A non-pneumatic tyre is assembled from eight hollow annular profiles having triangular sections which combine to support a hoop of tread rubber clear of a supporting wheel rim lined with a rubber pad. The hollow profiles are braced together by external high tensile cables. Compared with conventional pneumatic tyres, the composite tyre profile is shallow, i.e. with a depth/width ratio of about 0.3, and wide, to provide a large ground contact area and hence relatively low soil pressures. The hollow profiles provide sufficient radial flexibility for comfort without being susceptible to punctures. No specific matls. of construction quoted.</p> |
