The container with a magnetic-tape cassette (4) located therein comprises a rectangular housing (1), a slide-in unit (2), which can move along the narrow sides (6, 7) of the housing and receives the tape cassette (4) and also a compression spring (3) acting between the rear wall (23) of the slide-in unit and the rear side (8) of the housing. After disengaging a holding device (30, 31), the compression spring (3) pushes the slide-in unit together with the tape cassette (4) by an amount out of the housing (1) into an open position, in which the tape cassette (4) can be removed unhindered from the container. The slide-in unit (2) has the form of a four-sided frame which leaves the bottom (10) of the housing free and which at least partially embraces the tape cassette (4) lying on the bottom (10). In the open position, at least the frame part protruding from the container assumes an oblique position with respect to the bottom (10) of the housing. <IMAGE>
