In a steam power plant, purification of the condensate is carried out in a side stream system with purification device (25). In the condenser (16) a baffle (18) separates an upstream section off from a downstream section with warm condensate vessel (17). A through passage (21) in the baffle (18) for the passage of fluid to the warm condensate vessel has a barrage (22) on its upstream side for the retention of an amount of condensate (23). A first line (26) with a pump (27) serves for draining condensate off from this amount to the purification device (25); a second line (28, 29) serves for the return of purified condensate to the retained amount in a circulation process; a third line (28, 30) serves for the return of purified condensate to that section of the condenser which is situated downstream of the baffle, that is to the warm condensate vessel. Owing to this arrangement of the purification device, it does not have to be designed for the maximum pressure occurring in the system as would be the case were it arranged downstream of the main feed pump (12). <IMAGE>
