The cardboard container has a base (2) with two opposed side walls (5) having a height greater than the other pair (4). A cover (3) has a central section (9) with a shape corresponding to that of the base and with two extensions (12) connected along fold lines. The extensions have a height corresponding to those of the higher side walls and fit onto the shorter sides. The central section and two extensions have side flaps (13) to be fixed to the external faces of each of the higher side walls of the base.
