Detergent compsn. contg. soap and sulphonated fatty acid salt - with density similar to that of standard washing powders

Detergent compsn. comprises (wt.%) soap 45-55; alkali salt of alpha-sulphonated fatty acids 16-25; Na silicate builder 6-12; anticaking agent, pref. Na2SO4, 6-15; and nonionic surfactant (foam stabiliser) 0-3. The compsn. may also contain usual detergent additives such as antiredeposition agents, an optical brightener and a perfume, and are pref. formulated as powders of apparent density 0.25-0.35. The compsn. is suitable for use in domestic washing machines since it has a density similar to that of standard detergent formulations. It effectively removes various types of soil, obviates the need for a fabric softener, and protects fibres against chemical attack caused by usual detergents.
