A fuel assembly for a pressurized water fast breeder reactor has parallel pins each with tubular metal cladding(12) having a longitudinal fin with its extremity brazed to the cladding of an adjacent pin to form an integral assembly(10) with a moderator. The pins contain Pu as fuel and water is heavy water. One or more pins may have a number of longitudinal fins. The assembly prefers to include an Al alloy block with first channels for fuel and second channels for coolant arranged such that neutrons can pass between first channels without traversing coolant channels.
