PURPOSE:To detect the size of the detect accurately, by judging whether one echo envelop caused by one defect is divided into a plurality of echoes by the temporary change in the contacting state of a probe or not by the directivity characteristic of the probe. CONSTITUTION:The amplitude and the transmission time of the ultrasonic wave echo R which is received by an ultrasonic wave tranceiver 3 are stored in a memory 8 through a time gate circuit 4 and a K/D converter 5. The probe position which is detected by a probe position detector 7 wherein a potentiometer or a photoelectric element are used is also stored in the memory 8. In the memory 8, the probe position and the transmission time and the amplitude of the ultrasonic wave echo obtained at this position are orderly arranged in a table form. A computing device 9 reads the rising part, the falling part, and the range of the flat part of the echo envelop from the data table, performs the judgment of the continuity to the adjacent echo envelop and estimation of the size of the defect, and records and displays the shape of the defects on a recorder display 10. |
