The work bench or table which can be readily adapted for different purposes has two side frames (1) in the form of an inverted T. L-shaped members (2) are supported at their corners on vertical bars (8) which can be fixed at different heights in the side frames. The vertical branches of the side frames are hollow, so that the beams can slide within them. Flat boards (3,4) are pivoted to the ends of the arms of the L-shaped member. The work bench can be arranged with both boards lying in the same plane which may be horizontal or inclined or the boards can be arranged to lie at different levels.
