The invention proposes a control device (10) for a hydraulically driven work unit (82, 86). The device can be used as a mechanically actuated control valve for controlling the lifting gear in agricultural vehicles. A locking block (14) and a reversing valve (12) are controlled by a pilot control slide (36) in which is arranged an auxiliary slide (68) which prevents jamming. The pilot control slide (36) has a control edge (64) making a connection into a working line (52) leading to the power lift (82) and is connected to the auxiliary slide (68) and a restriction (48) in such a way that a proportional lifting range (98) is achieved as a function of the stroke of the pilot control slide (36), the said range being limited in the neutral direction by a partial oil jump (97) and making a transition towards the end of the stroke into an oil jump (99) by the elimination of the control pressure drop via the control edge (64). <IMAGE>
