PURPOSE:To reduce discontinuity of analog display in order to keep the viewers from feeling strangeness for the display and improve the display quality by changing gradually contrast for each electrode pattern in accordance with the change in the electrode pattern. CONSTITUTION:When change in the length is displayed in analog display such as bar graphs in which series of bars are displayed by lighting them in series, a plurality of rectangular transparent electrodes 11-15, for example, are arranged as a long series of bars on the opposing face of a glass substrate on one side, and a common electrode in a long bar shape on the opposing face of the other glass substrate, and nematic liquid crystal is sealed between both substrates to form a display device. The display is formed as follows: for instance, the pattern of the electrode 11 is made darkest and the electrodes from 11 to 13 are made gradually brighter in this order by applying voltage to them with change in voltage or frequency, and no voltage is applied to the electrodes 14 and 15. When the display is intended to be made longer, athe voltages applied to the electrodes 11 and 12 are made the same, and gradually the voltage is raised so as to make the pattern brighter with the electrode 14 brightest. In this arrangement analog displays that are easy to look at can be obtained. |
