Remote controlled rotary head with tool holder slide - is driven during rotation by reciprocating ball train in hydraulic loop

The remote controlled rotary heads adapt to a machine-tool table with revolving spindles, using a head (I) with an integral tool-holder slide. It can transmit reciprocal linear motion to the slide whilst the head rotates, the movements being initiated from an independent control centre through a network of supple pipes and a rotatable coupling. The head may include two passages each locating a ball (1) train driven by floating pistons (2) in a closed hydraulic loop. The ball trains drive independent wheels (W) on an output shaft (S), final linear drive being imparted by worm and wheel or rack (R) and pinion (P). The hydraulic circuit may include two pressure compensators with fixed adjustable stops, the shaft also being drivable by a crank handle or a servo-motor.
