A control device for a device controlled by an electromagnet (11), preferably the solenoid valve acting on the actuating device of a hydrostatic transmission element, having an input line (1) carrying a control signal and having a ramp forming device (4) connected thereto, and having a transistor (9) whose base is connected to the ramp forming device (4), the transistor (9) controlling the current flow through the magnet (11), and the light source (21) of an opto-coupler (13) being connected in parallel with the magnet (11) in order to limit the short-circuit current which can occur if the magnet (11) or the line (10) leading to it burns through, the transistor (21) of which opto-coupler is connected to a second input of the ramp forming device (4), the ramp forming device (4) being switched off when said ramp forming device (4) is driven via this second input. <IMAGE>
