Slide-guided prebraking rods (15) are jointly displaceable by slides (16, 17) relative to stationary prebraking rods (14). For this, gearwheels (22) engage on the slides (16, 17) via a rack profile (20). At the same time, there can act on the gearwheels (22) a rotary slide (30) which, automatically and as a function of the starting speed of the machine up to the normal operation of the latter, returns the movable prebraking rods (15) from a stand-by point (34) during a machine standstill, via at least one intermediate position (35), into a maximum clamping position (36) and then into the normal operating position (35). This allows a readjustment of the yarn tension as a function of the starting speed of the machine and therefore an immediate commencement of the yarn-monitoring functions. <IMAGE>
