In the case of a device for the electromagnetic recording and reproducing of signals, for high-speed copying, a plurality of tracks are created in one operation. In this case, the helical tracks are obtained from two movements running perpendicularly with respect to each other, by the magnetic tape being guided past a magnetic head support in a straight path and by the magnetic heads additionally being moved perpendicularly with respect to the tape advancement.
