965,906. Baling presses. FAWCETT PRESTON & CO. Ltd. Oct. 26, 1960 [Jan. 18, 1960], No. 1803/60. Heading B5F. Apparatus for baling material under pressure comprises a first chamber 8 in which the bale is subjected to a preliminary pressure or pressures, a second pressure chamber 17 in which a finishing pressure is applied to the material in a direction opposite to the direction in which the preliminary pressure or pressures is applied, a dwell station in which the bale is held compressed and means by which the bale is strapped while compressed in the dwell station. The preliminary pressing chamber 8 is positioned vertically above the chamber 17, the chambers being separated by an hydraulically controlled division plate 14, and embodying arms 1, 19 respectively. A door 9 in the chamber 8, pivoted at 9a, opens to receive material from a weigh hopper 10. An ejector ram 22 is provided, positioned opposite the dwell station 23. In use, material is fed along a conveyer 12, into the weigh hopper 10, through the door 9 and into chamber 8. The door is closed and pressure applied by ram 1 acting against plate 14. After compression of further charges, the plate 14 is withdrawn to permit the material to be pushed into the chamber 17. The plate 14 returns and final compression takes place by upward movement of ram 19. The bale is ejected by the ram 22 into the dwell station, pushing a preceding bale into the tying position at 24. |
