The horizontal carrier piece for each bar element comprises a cut piece of sheet steel bent in a U-shape, or tube section. A narrow side (1a) forms a downward-open half shell, in a sectional staircase made up from any desired number of step members. The inter-step connecting piece (2) is a tube section with its longitudinal axis parallel to the half shell between the U-shank ends (1b,1c) so that it protrudes by more than half step height. Its external dia. fits half shell internal dia. The device for holding the connecting piece of the next bar element below has a clamping element between the U-shanks. On top of the carrier piece a horizontal panel serves as step, or as mounting for a step.
