A spacer for an accumulator, esp. a lead-acid battery, is inserted between the last plate (4) of the battery and the end wall of the casing (6). The spacer consists of a plate (5) bearing against the electrode plate (4) and of an elastic spring member (11) having its edges (7,8) bearing against this plate (5). The elastic member is pref. arc-shaped with its edges curved inwards. This arrangement enables batteries of various numbers of plates to be made up without the need to have a casing of the exact dimensions for each battery; instead the spring-acting spacer is fitted at the end of the stack of plates. Moreover, the arrangement shown is adaptable to different widths of battery. Prefd. material for the arc-shaped spring (11) is a sulphuric acid-resistant plastics, such as polyolefin or PVC, and the plate (5) may be of the same material. The plate (5) has stops (9,10) into which the ends of the spring can be engaged. |
