Telephone answering machine for transmitting replies recorded in an integrated memory in pulse modulation formed by binary signals, the sound medium being a programmable read-only memory for binary signals, i.e. a magnetic bubble memory (BM), which contains a write loop (WL), a plurality of minor loops (ML) in each case representing storage space loops and a read loop (RL), the reply being stored in delta modulation in the minor loops (ML), the rotating field frequency of the magnetic bubble memory (BM) being lower than 40 kHz and no more than eight times and no less than twice the upper limit frequency of the reply voice frequency band, and one (281) of the non-defective minor loops (ML) being a marking bit loop in that this loop (ML/281) does not store the binary signals of the reply nor the binary signals of any left message but rather the marking bits (mb) for marking segments of the stored reply and/or message. <IMAGE>
