PURPOSE:To prevent any generation of moires or shadows by adjusting the electric potential of a color selecting electrode to be higher than that of a color fluorescent surface, and adjusting the difference between these electric potentials to be sufficient to remove lateral shadows, which divide the beam transmitting holes during the scanning of electron beams. CONSTITUTION:The electric potential of a color selecting electrode 3 is set higher than that of a color fluorescent surface 1. When electron beam scanning is carried out by giving a reduced-speed concave-lens electric field between the electrode 3 and the surface 1, an electron beam scanning area 8, which has slightly larger length and width than the area of a beam transmitting hole 5 of a slot mask, is obtained on the surface 1 as is indicated with a dot line, thereby extinguishing the lateral images of a cross linking part 6. As is indicated in the figure, a high electric potential EHV is given to the surface 1, and a higher electric potential EG, which equals the sum of EHV and EPF is given to the electrode 3. Here, an electric potential difference EPF should be made enough to extinguish exactly the lateral images of the part 6. |
