PURPOSE:To improve the response speed of an electrochromic device by disposing an electrochromic material between the electrodes formed on the surfaces of insulation substrates. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 12 and 12' consisting of conductive films of aluminum, tin oxide, etc. are formed on the surface of a glass plate 1. Here, 11' is a glass plate, 13 is a spacer which can be replaced with an electrode material and 14 is a liquid crystal material. This liquid crystal device is produced by a method of forming aluminum on the glass plate 11 through vacuum deposition then forming electrodes 12, 12' by the so-called photoetching treatment consisting of coating of photoresist, exposure and developing of patterns and etching then sealing the liquid crystal 14 with the glass plate 11' with the mica spacer 13 in-between. According to this liquid crystal device, the driving of a liquid crystal cell is accomplished by the electrodes formed by photoetching and therefore the interelectrode space can be made as small as down to the order of submicron, whereby the electric field intensity to be applied to the electrochromic material is taken high and the response speed is improved. |
