An ignition circuit for a high- pressure discharge lamp (2) supplied from a high frequency source (1) comprises a spark gap (13) connected in parallel with a capacitor (12) and in series with the primary winding (14) of a pulse transformer (15). The spark gap generates only one spark to produce one ignition pulse during several cycles of the high-frequency voltage. An isolating transformer (5) increases the voltage supplied to symmetrical or asymmetrical voltage doubler circuit (8, 9, 10) which charges the capacitor (12), the discharge of which in the resonant circuit formed with the winding (14) supplies the high voltage ignition pulses to the lamp. <IMAGE> |
