<p>The bed of molten metal on which a ribbon of glass is supported during manufacture is constituted by an alloy of tin with one of the noble metals silver, gold, platinum, palladium, or rhodium or an alloy of two or more of them. Preferably the alloying metal is silver and it is used in the proportion of 1-50% to produce an alloy having a melting-point below 700 DEG C.ALSO:In the production of flat glass in ribbon form as disclosed in Specifications 893,663 and 769,692, the support bed is constituted by an alloy of tin with one of the noble metals silver, gold, platinum, palladium, or rhodium or an alloy of two or more of them.
