PURPOSE:To enhance the strength and the discharge characteristic of a cadmium negative electrode by manufacturing the said electrode by use of a paste added with either fluffy metal fibers or short fibers coated with metal. CONSTITUTION:Polyvinyl alcohol and the like are added to a powder chosen from among a group consisting of cadmium oxide, cadmium hydroxide, cadmium metal and the like, and the mixture is kneaded into a paste. Next, the paste is applied to a porous supporting plate, and the plate coated with the paste is dried and pressed, thereby manufacturing a pasted negative electrode of cadmium. The above negative electrode is added with fluffy metal fibers or metal- coated short fibers, which make active material grains contained in the paste to adhere effectively to the surface of the paste and facilitate the formation of conductive network. |
