PURPOSE:To increase both the rigidity and the liquid absorbing ability of a separator for a dry cell by rolling a first original paper into a spiral shape, and rolling a second and third original paper around the first paper so that a homogeneous structure is obtained in the whole. CONSTITUTION:A separator 10 is formed by rolling three layers, which are a first, a second and a third original paper 11, 12 and 13. The papers 11-13 are prepared by cutting a non-woven fabric with a good liquid absorbing ability into a ribbon-like shape with given dimension. The second paper 12 is made slightly wider than the first paper 11, and the third paper 13 is made sufficiently wider than the second paper 12. After the paper 11 is rolled into spiral form in such a manner that parts of the opposite sides 11' of the paper 11 thrust each other, the paper 12 is rolled into spiral form in the same manner as before, around the paper 11 so that the seams 14 of the paper 11 are covered with the paper 12. After that, the paper 13 is rolled into spiral form, around the paper 12 so that the seams 15 of the paper 12 are covered with the paper 13, and parts of the opposite sides of the paper 13 which are placed one upon another are stuck to each other with an adhesive, thus a cylindrical shape is obtained. |
