PURPOSE:To permit film formation of a recording layer in an atmosphere is which gases are less released by subjecting the surface of a resin substrate to a special treatment. CONSTITUTION:The recording medium consists of a synthetic resin and thin films essentially consisting of an inorg. material are formed on both faces thereof. The substrate is exemplified resin substrates consisting of an acrylic resin, polycarbonate resin, epoxy resin, etc., and the thickness of the thin films essentially consisting of the inorg. material is 100-5,000Angstrom . The problems such as the instability of the pressure in a vacuum vessel by the gases released from the substrate and the adverse influence to be exerted to the recording layer if the released gases are gaseous H2O, O2, etc., are thereby eliminated even if the substrate is placed in the vacuum vessel and the inside of the vessel is evacuated.
