According to the invention, image detecting apparatus responds to horizontal and vertical deflection signals for detecting image characteristics on the film in a raster pattern to generate the video signal. The apparatus of the invention is for controlling the angular orientation of the raster on the film and includes a circuit for generating horizontal and vertical deflection signals and a circuit which responds to a raster angle control signal for supplying the horizontal and vertical deflection signals with selected amplitude and polarity to horizontal and vertical deflection terminals on the image detecting apparatus.
