<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal light valve capable of being driven in a time sharing manner and having micro shutters arrayed in high density by a construction wherein a substrate equipped with halved common electrodes is disposed to cross and face a substrate equipped with a plurality of signal electrodes and liquid crystal compositions are enclosed therebetween. CONSTITUTION:In a liquid crystal light valve (liquid crystal shutter cell) used in a signal modulation light irradiating system for a printer wherein a light signal is irradiated on a light conductor 102 and this is developped with tonors so as to obtain picture informations, for instance, a substrate equipped with halved common electrodes 401, 402 and 119, 120 are disposed to cross and face a substrate 118 equipped with a plurality of signal electrodes 403-406 and 121-122. Between both the common electrodes and the signal electrodes are enclosed liquid crystal compositions which are obtained by adding an optical active substance to a nematic liquid crystal with dielectric anisotropy coming to zero at the normal temperature and cross frequency not greater than 100kHz, thereby to constitute a cell. Polarizing plates 123, 124 are disposed on both sides of the cell and a power supply for the time sharing drive is connected between the common electrodes.</p> |
