PURPOSE:To obtain a device with good operability which sets the best operation characteristics automatically through simple operation, by starting the best operation characteristics setting means by the 1st recording start command in a period when a magnetic tape is loaded. CONSTITUTION:A test signal is recorded and then reproduced, and on the basis of the state of the reproduced signal, the best operation characteristics of recording, reproduction, or recording and reproduction which correspond to the magnetic characteristics of a magnetic tape to be used are set automatically. The optimum operation characteristics setting device of a magnetic recorder and reproduce is provided with a tape-loading detecting means 92a of detecting a magnetic tape being loaded on the magnetic recorder and reproducer body, and the best operation characteristics setting means 20-22, 30, 40, 60, 80, 92b, and 92c which set the best operation characteristics automatically. Those best operation characteristics setting means are started by the 1st recording start command in a period when the magnetic tape is loaded. |
