The self-emptying centrifuge drum for clarifying and separating liquids to be centrifuged has a piston valve (6) which is bounded on its upper side by the solids space (3), for opening and closing discharge openings (12) in the drum casing (7), a closing chamber (11) for receiving a closing fluid being provided on the underside of the piston valve and the closing chamber being connected via a channel (19), constructed as an annular gap, to an intermediate chamber (20) for closing fluid. The emptying of the closing chamber for initiation of an emptying process of the contents of the drum takes place via a centrifugal force valve (15) which is connected to the closing chamber via a channel (14) which emerges from the peripheral part of the closing chamber, and the intermediate chamber is bounded at the top by an annular valve (9) which is arranged so as to be capable of moving axially towards the separating space (4). During the opening process of the centrifugal drum when the internal liquid level (6) of the liquid which is to be centrifuged is falling the annular valve automatically clears a channel (19), constructed as an annular gap, between the intermediate chamber and the closing chamber, as a result of which, in addition to the sudden emptying and filling of the closing chamber with closing fluid, the piston valve is automatically controlled during partial emptying of the drum. <IMAGE> |
