It is intended to create a protection circuit which makes it possible to drive a piezo-signal transmitter (4) directly from an integrated circuit (1) without said integrated circuit (1) being subjected to any risk of destruction because of steady-state charging of the piezo-signal transmitter (4) caused by the environment. For this purpose, a dissipation path, which acts at least when the piezo-signal transmitter (4) is in its non-driven operating mode, is connected in parallel with said piezo-signal transmitter (4). The path (which has a low impedance in the non-driven operating mode) through an output stage (3) (of complementary construction) within the circuit (1) or even an external dissipation resistor (14) can be provided as this dissipation path, and preferably a conductive-varnish link (18) which is constructed on the piezo-signal transmitter (4), between its two electrodes (8, 11). <IMAGE>
