PURPOSE:To obtain a magnet with high performance at low-price, by heat-treating an alloy of columnar crystal structure, hardening magnetically, cutting in a desirable form, and magnetizing radially on the surface perpendicular to a direction of columnar crystal growth. CONSTITUTION:An ingot of alloy of alloy of transition metal elements mainly composed of Sm and Co e.g. Sm (Co0.8Cu0.14Fe0.06)7.3 is cast in a mold within Ar gas atmosphere with a high-frequency melting furnace. An ingot mainly composed of columnar crystal is made. The ingot is subjected solution heat treatment in Ar gas atmosphere at 1,180 deg.C for example for five hours and then quenched to a room temperature. The magnet machined as shown in (b) is cut to a desirable shape, and magnetized radially on a surface perpendicular to the columnar crystal growing direction. The magnet of high directional characteristics and high maximum energy product is obtained by above mentioned process, and yet, a casting method is adopted to decreases the manufacturing cost. |
