Dispenser for tablets and the like comprises a pref. cylindrical housing (10) contg. the tablets with a movable metering cell (34) contg. an inlet opening (36) and outlet opening (38); the movement of the cell (34) enables one or other of these openings to be open but never both at the same time. The inlet opening communicates with the interior of the chamber. In the embodiment shown the dispensing chamber is a cylindrical cap on the end of the container and the container has a transverse discharge wall (16) at its end, in which a discharge opening (18) permits a tablet to leave and enter the dispensing cap when the latter is rotated to the correct position. Beyond this end wall (16) the container has a continuing sleeve (20) with longitudinal aperture (16) in it, at a different position from the discharge opening (18), so that when the discharge opening (34) of the cap is aligned with this opening communication with the interior of the chamber is prevented.
