Multipath connector for printed circuits - with detachable lid to enable insertion or removal of spring contacts without tools

The electrical contact housing has several columns of pockets for holding the spring contacts, with openings in the outer face through which mating contact pins can enter. The spring contacts are in the form of a rectangular U-shape, or tube, and terminate in a tongue to which an incoming lead can be connected by one of several established methods. These wired contacts enter the housing at the side opposite the entries for the mating contacts. A lid through which the connecting wires are threaded has moulded on T-shaped spring tongues. When the lid is snapped onto the housing these tongues enter the pockets and lock the spring contacts into position. To alter a contact it is only necessary to unsnap the lid and remove to insert the contact by hand. No tools are required. The contact housing assembly is carried in a two part shell (24) by which it is held onto a suitable support or mounting.
