Coal plough travel reversing mechanism - includes chain operated locking system for cutter to align teeth ready for return travel

The operating system for a coal plough uses a chain (15) to slide end assemblies (17) horizontally at the end of each traverse, to swing the cutter (22) about a horizontal axis (23) ready to travel in the reverse direction. Each end assembly incorporates a tapered nose (21,39) which enters or leaves a sloping sided recess (25,26) in the end face of a central block (24) which carries the cutter. Mounted at each end are also braking members which can be hydraulically operated. The mechanism also controls the tilting action of the cutter about a vertical action for reversing the position of the cutting teeth at right angles to the other cutting teeth.
