<p>A liquid magnetic compass with a lockable rose magnet system requires a weaker magnet than conventional devices which enables a cost reduction and a reduction in the disturbance field at the magnet control compass. Compass card bending under applied forces is eliminated. A projection or recess (4) is arranged on the side of the rose magnet system facing away from the bearing (5). The side of the compass bowl cap remote from the projection or recess has a recess or projection (2) fitting on the rose. If the compass is rotated about the horizontal by 180 degrees w.r.t. the normal operating position the rose moves w.r.t. the cap wall until the projection engages the recess, thus locking the rose in position.</p> |
