PURPOSE:To provide a synthetic lubricating oil having excellent viscosity index, flash point and pour point, and composed of an ethylene.alpha-olefin copolymer having specific ethylene content, number-average molecular weight, Q-value, etc. CONSTITUTION:An ethylene.alpha-olefin copolymer having an ethylene content of 30-70mol%, a number-average molecular weight of 300-2,000, a Q-value (ratio of weight-average molecular weight to number-average molecular weight) of <=3 and a statistical molecular weight distribution, is used as the objective synthetic lubricating oil. The lubricating oil can be prepared, e.g. by the liquid-phase continuous copolymerization of ethylene and an alpha-olefin in the presence of H2 using a catalyst prepared from a soluble V compound and an organic Al compound. |
